TopMBA.com looks at two useful resources for those applying for an MBA: Alumni networks and Info sessions.
Alumni Network
This could very well be the greatest advantage of studying for your Executive MBA. The alumni network you will be a part of upon graduation of your EMBA degree will become an incredibly valuable professional network for career progression, professional development and quite possibly, business opportunities.
But the alumni of your business school will also be an important network to tap into before you embark on your EMBA as well. Speaking with alumni as you carry out research into EMBA programs will give you an insight into life as an EMBA student, the workload of a particular program and also student life.
Alumni networks are for life. As an EMBA alum you’ll be regularly updated on news from your business schools, the achievements of other alum and opportunities exclusively available to you – both personally and professionally.
Information sessions
The biggest series of information sessions is the QS World Executive MBA Tour. Travelling to over 10 countries across five continents on an annual basis, the Tour brings some of the world’s top EMBA programs in contact with interested candidates from all corners of the globe. It’s at these fairs that you can meet face to face with the admissions directors and alumni of the business schools you’re most interested in.
Face to face contact is very important as part of your EMBA pathway. Most business schools will also host their own individual open days, allowing you the opportunity to explore the campus, get a feel for student life and attend a sample EMBA lecture. However, attending a business school open day usually comes towards the end of your selection process.
Until then, it pays to make the most of the opportunities you get to meet directly with the admissions directors who will be reading your EMBA application and the best way to do that is at the QS World MBA and QS World Executive MBA Tours.
