I was an NHS laboratory manager but my career wasnt moving as fast as I wanted. The Middlesex MBA suited me; It was a way to change direction. Throughout my first year I attended networking events; I met lots of people and I became interested in recruitment as a possible career path. After graduating I set up the Middlesex MBA Careers Service and was then invited to join a start-up recruitment company. I headed up their interim management division and brought its turnover to £2 to £3 million. I found the MBA gave me credibility as a recruitment consultant as I could talk to employers and candidates in-depth about any industry. I was also seconded to the Cabinet Office to set up a leadership programme, and now I am back in recruitment in a senior post. Ive found that as an MBA youre not just another head in the business; youre seen as a strategic operator who can drive change. But its not the MBA, its the person behind the MBA that counts.
