Nottingham University Business School

Nottingham University Business School is among the top ten business schools in the UK at one of the UK’s most prestigious and popular universities. The 2008 Times Good University Guide ranks the School 6th among UK management schools. We are among the few UK business schools ranked in the 2007 Financial Times global top 100 MBA and the only UK business school in the Aspen Institute’s ‘Beyond Grey Pinstripes’ ranking of the world’s most innovative MBA programmes. The University won the prestigious ‘UK University of the year’ award in the 2006/07 Times Higher Awards. All our MBAs are accredited by AMBA and the School was rated grade 5 in the RAE, which means that our research is of international excellence.

The Business School is on the attractive, modern Jubilee Campus, close to Nottingham city centre. Nottingham is a thriving commercial and cultural centre, and our facilities are among the best available in the UK.

Our MBAs include a General MBA and the opportunity to specialise in finance, corporate social responsibility,  entrepreneurship, or risk and insurance. You can choose to study elements of your MBA in Singapore, at the University’s Malaysia campus, or a choice of leading overseas business schools. Our part-time and Executive MBAs offer flexible study to fit your lifestyle, spread over 24-48 months. The full time MBA offers you a wide choice of electives, internships, an interpersonal skills programme, and popular language courses in French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. You’ll begin work immediately on a business problem with a strong emphasis on innovation and will return to this business problem at regular intervals. This encouragement to deal with all dimensions of a business issue leads naturally into the final element of your MBA programme—the management project. We encourage you to spend three months working as an intern within an organisation on an actual business issue of their choosing. Our internship programme will help you plan practical projects in the UK or overseas with regional or international companies such as Rolls-Royce, Alliance Boots, and Business in the Community. The emphasis is on your ability to bring all your knowledge and skills to bear, and to use your developing interpersonal skills in a real life situation.

All our programmes have a common core of subjects that develop your skills in essential areas of management through lectures, seminars, case studies, group work, and project work. Through your choice of elective subjects, you can tailor your studies to match your interests, which can then be developed in your management project.

We offer several scholarships and bursaries for the full-time MBA and University accommodation is available on or near to the Jubilee Campus.

Student Profile

Jörg Epple, MBA in Corporate Social, Responsibility (CSR)

Jörg was a Chief Executive of an international clothing manufacturer and worked in the industry for over 15 years. The MBA enabled Jörg to secure a position as a senior consultant at Camaxys, a leading European environmental health and safety solution provider, based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.

“I decided to study for an MBA to consolidate my career. The MBA in CSR seemed a natural progression to me, as I was extensively involved in ethical supply chain management.

I chose Nottingham because it was the only Business School that offered an MBA in CSR. I had worked with several MBA graduates from Nottingham and they all benefited professionally and academically from the course, which gave me confidence that I had made the right decision. Nottingham is well regarded with employers throughout the UK, while the School offers excellent facilities and learning opportunities. The new building is particularly impressive, with MBA resource rooms, break-out rooms, a café, and 24 hour access to the PC lab.

Alongside the formal teaching sessions, there was group work and case studies. The practical and relevant teaching style helped me to understand complex business issues and the course equipped me with new tools and techniques to solve them creatively. The demanding timescales helped me to cope well under pressure and to find pertinent solutions. The programme gave me the assurance that I can cope in any business environment and that I can communicate well at all levels. Nottingham has students from all over the world, and I benefited immensely from the perspectives of other countries and cultures. The MBA helped me to undertake cutting edge research at BMW Consulting in Munich, Germany.”
