4.4 Latin America
4.4.1 Summary
Traditionally, some of the business schools in Latin America have been less well known internationally than many of those in other regions. There is evidence that schools in Latin America are not internationalizing at the pace of their Asian counterparts. Only 5 schools have made the cut into the Global Top 100 in 2007, down from 10 schools last year. Nevertheless, a consistent picture of the most preferred group has emerged in this research, year on year with a consistent number of recruiter respondents in Latin America and stable evaluations.
Once again, a Mexican institution tops the list, but this time it is EGADE – tec de Monterrey which has replaced ITAM Instituto Technologico Autonomo de Mexico at the top of the list. ITAM has dropped back to 5th place, whilst. IPADE Instituto de Estudios Panamericano de Alta Direcction de Empresa has risen to 2nd place. INCAE Business School of Costa Rica, with the highest percentage of international students (85%) performs well at 4th place. F.Getulio Vargas, the private business school in Brazil completes the top 5 institutions in the region in 3rd place, up from 7th last year.
Schools which have dropped out of the Global Top 10 include; IAE Instituto de Altos Estudios Empresariales Universidad Austral of Argentina, Venezuela’s IESA Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administracion, Universidade de São Paulo, Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. These schools would have featured in the top 10 schools in Latin America, but their recruiter scores left them someway behind their counterparts in Asia and Europe.
Recruiters’ top 5 preferred schools in the Latin America region are:
EGADE – Tecnologico de Monterrey (Mexico), IPADE Instituto de Estudios Panamericano de Alta Direcction de Empresa (Mexico), Fundação Getulio Vargas Business School (Brazil, INCAE Business School (Costa Rica), ITAM Instituto Technologico Autonomo de Mexico (Mexico).
