Overview

The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) was established in 1968 in partnership with Harvard Business School, the Ford Foundation, and visionaries of the Asian academic and business communities. Upon its founding, AIM declared its commitment towards making a difference in sustaining the growth of Asian societies.

AIM is one of the leading graduate schools of business and management in the region, offering graduate education that has molded Asia’s business, development, and entrepreneurial leaders and managers.

As an Asian institute, AIM knows how Asian managers are best developed; AIM knows how business and development organizations in Asia are best managed. For this purpose, AIM has created programs specifically for Asian needs and uses an approach attuned to the Asian mind and to Asian problems.

AIM is organized into schools offering master’s degree and non-degree programs.

1. W. SyCip Graduate School of Business. The GSB’s two degree programs—the Master in Business Administration (MBA) and Master in Management (MM)—are global in scope and content, Asian in context and delivery, and designed with emphasis on practitioner-oriented learning.

2. Center for Development Management (CDM). CDM’s degree and certificate programs seek to produce development catalysts capable of implementing programs with the largest impact on the poorest and focused on building strong institutions for sustainability.

3. Executive Education and Lifelong Learning Center (EXCELL). EXCELL is AIM’s answer to companies’ demand for continuous education. Its programs transform executives in the Asian region into skilled and well-versed global managers and leaders.

AIM has a network of more than 37,000 alumni located in more than 70 countries worldwide. Alumni chapters are present in 15 countries: Bangladesh, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam.

AIM’s commitment to management excellence has been recognized by many organizations.

· 13th best business school in Asia and Australasia based on The Economist list of top Full-Time MBA programs in 2009

· Accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) based on the highest standards developed by deans, faculty, and other thought leaders

· Winner of the 1995 Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize, for promoting international understanding and “setting region-wide standards for excellence”

· Recipient of the 1st Beyond Grey Pinstripes Award for Business School Innovation in Social Impact Management in 2001. In 2003, Beyond Grey Pinstripes cited AIM for Excellence in Integration in Core Curriculum for reporting the most content on social impact and environmental management topics in the core courses.

· First graduate school of management in the world to be awarded ISO 14001 Certification for its Environmental Management System.

Student profile

The AIM student population is multinational and primarily Asian. About 40% of degree students come from Asian countries other than the Philippines. Under the International Student Exchange Program, an MBA student can spend a term in one of AIM’s premier partner business schools.

The average age of an incoming MBA student is 26; Master in Management, 35; Executive MBA, 36; and Master in Development Management, 37.

AIM uses the case method as the primary mode of learning in all its programs. In collaboration with a seasoned professor, students analyze real-life solutions in class discussions, and learn important concepts and skills. They are drilled in evaluating hundreds of cases during their course to sharpen their managerial skills. An AIM education means rigorous training, up-to-date management concepts, and emphasis on analytical, people management and leadership skills. AIM is likewise known for its intense and practitioner-oriented approach to management education.

MBA and MM students receive from a Career Management Services office extra support services such as career counseling sessions and seminars on interview protocols, negotiation, career planning, corporate etiquette, and ethical conduct, all done with the help of resource persons from various industries.
