Overview
The largest business school in the South and part of a major research institution, the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University is located in Atlanta, an epicenter of business and a gateway to the world. With programs on four continents and students from 150 countries, the College is both worldwide and world class. Its part-time MBA program is ranked number five in the nation and has been in the top 10 for 13 consecutive years. The College has 200 faculty, 7,400 students and 65,000 alumni. Noted for an emphasis on educating leaders, the Robinson College and Georgia State have produced more of Georgia's top executives with graduate degrees than any other school in the nation.
While business schools are not known for flexibility and allowing students personal choice, Georgia State is not like most business schools. The J. Mack Robinson College of Business is not so specialized that students can’t find classes to match their interests. At the same time, the College is a recognized leader in such fields as accounting, computer information systems, risk management and real estate.
Robinson offers the M.B.A. degree in four formats, as well as eighteen specialized master’s programs. Students can earn an M.B.A. with a major or concentration in one of eighteen areas. Classes are offered during the daytime and evenings and on Saturdays.
The Flexible M.B.A. offers the greatest choice of day and evening courses (Monday-Thursday) for both full-time and part-time students. Students plan course schedules to fit their needs and can start in any semester. The Executive M.B.A. (E.M.B.A.) is a lockstep, two-year program designed for managers with significant career experience, with classes on Fridays and Saturdays. One of the college’s newest programs is the Professional MBA (PMBA). Designed for high potential performers with three or more years business experience, the PMBA is offered predominantly on Saturdays. Students spend their first year in a lock-step core curriculum and their second year taking electives from as many as 19 diverse areas. They also have an opportunity to extend their program to acquire a concentration or major or participate in an international or domestic residency. One of our more unique programs, the Global Partners MBA, enables students to experience firsthand the intricacies of doing business on a global level.
Through our partnerships with leading business schools in Paris (the IAE-Sorbonne) and Rio de Janeiro (the COPPEAD Graduate School of Business, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), the Global Partners program features a fourteen-month curriculum with a combination of courses, meetings and presentations from business leaders, members of academia, and government officials within each of the four continents. Students divide the first ten months between Atlanta, Paris, Rio and China. The final four months are dedicated to an International Field Service/Internship. Graduates receive their M.B.A. from Robinson College and a Master’s from IAE-Sorbonne.
For executives wishing to advance their careers even further, the college has introduced an Executive Doctorate The program is geared to the lifelong learning needs of intellectually active professional adults who already possess advanced degrees in their fields but wish to continue their education to the highest level.
Student profile
Students and the M.B.A. Experience
Business students at Georgia State learn not only from the faculty members but also from each other. That’s because the average master’s student is 29 years old and has six years of full-time work experience. Students discover that this work experience, and that of their colleagues, is a vital component of the Georgia State program. There are about 1,600 M.B.A. students and 553 specialized master’s students. Of all master’s students, 35 percent are women, 20 percent are members of minority groups, and 14 percent are international. The program is large and offers numerous classes in specialized fields not found at other schools. This allows students the opportunity to explore their areas of interest and meet their career goals.
The Business School Network
As graduates of the largest business program in the Atlanta area, Robinson’s approximately 65,000 business alumni serve as a great network. Some of the nation’s top executives are among the College’s alumni. They include Ken Lewis, Chairman, CEO and President of Bank of America, Corp.; Mackey MacDonald, Chairman of VF Corporation; and Kevin Lofton, Chairman and President of Catholic Health Initiatives.
Placement
The Graduate Career Management Office offers comprehensive career services, including an employer library and lists of job and internship opportunities, computer terminals for online and database job searches, and workshops to help students in their job search. The office also hosts the annual Business Career Expo, which attracts more than 100 employers. Career counselors are available to provide individual assessments of students’ career goals and opportunities. For more information, students should visit http://robinson.gsu.edu/career.
