Overview

UNC gives its MBAs the breadth they now need to advance their careers over the long term, while also giving them enough depth to add real value in their first few years on the post-graduation job. The faculty cares about great teaching. Professors are highly accessible to the roughly 530 MBAs in the 2-year, full-time program. Students value the support and challenge provided by their professors and by fellow MBAs in this close-knit community.

An MBA from UNC helps you grow in 3 areas that companies say are critical to long-term success in business:

1.General management: At UNC, general management is not a major. It is a way of thinking that is pervasive in the MBA Program.
2.Teamwork and leadership: In the first year, students practice and get personal feedback on their ability to lead others and work effectively in a team.
3.Communication: All students take the management communication course. This 7-week course increases their ability to speak to groups, give presentations, and communicate with and persuade others.

The core curriculum is short and intense. It gives students a thorough foundation and then allows them in their first year to customize their choice of additional required courses and begin taking electives.

Students may plan their courses to meet certain career goals or may major in one or more of 8 areas:

1.Customer and product management
2.Corporate finance
3.Entrepreneurial studies
4.Global supply chain management
5.Investment management
6.Management consulting
7.Real estate
8.Sustainable enterprise

In addition, UNC Kenan-Flagler has a Leadership Initiative that provides MBAs with extensive opportunities to enhance their leadership skills in ways that recruiters value. MBA leadership development at UNC is a commitment we make to the success of our students. We use a practical approach. The process exposes MBAs to leadership principles and provides the opportunity to practice leadership in meaningful, real-world situations. Then students get feedback, reflect on and learn from it and repeat the cycle again.

An extensive selection of international programs gives students the experience they need to confidently lead businesses around the world.

•Exchange programs with 40 of the highest-ranked business schools in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East
•International internships and practicums
•Global Immersion Electives that expose students to business practices in targeted countries/ regions
•Working Languages™ courses in Spanish, Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese that include a travel-immersion experience

UNC is the only top school with an institute that helps business and government tackle problems with impact on society; the business school’s Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise has offices on the campus, in Washington, D.C. and in Bangkok, Thailand.

UNC recommends a minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience and evaluates applicants based on these criteria:

•Leadership and organizational abilities
•Communication skills
•Interpersonal skills
•Teamwork abilities
•Track record of results
•Drive and motivation
•Analytical skills and problem-solving ability
