Overview

Innovative curriculum, world-renowned thought leaders and a prime location. No business school combines them all to challenge and prepare its MBA students better than the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.

Consistently ranked among the United States’ top MBA programs, Marshall employs a “breadth with depth” philosophy in our academic approach. Our Full-Time MBA curriculum ensures discipline-based depth while offering increased flexibility needed in today’s complex business arena through a mix of a comprehensive Core business education and a breadth of second-year electives allowing students to personalize their education.

Our academic programs, each geared toward professionals at a particular stage of their career, enhance our students’ skills and expose them to hands-on, global learning experiences. An innovator in globalization, we are the first business school to require that all students travel abroad and complete consulting projects in Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Beyond the full-time two-year program, Marshall offers a three-year part-time program, a two-year Executive MBA program, a Global Executive MBA program (in partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University) and IBEAR, the only program in the U.S. offering a one-year international MBA degree.

A Marshall MBA delivers a distinct professional edge. We purposefully keep our programs small to foster a learning environment that facilitates teamwork, personal attention and professional growth. Our award-winning teacher-scholars — influential thinkers, leading policymakers and real-world practitioners — build personal relationships with their students that carry far beyond graduation, combining the benefits of a major university with the support typical of a smaller private school.

Marshall is further distinguished by our location in one of the most dynamic and diverse cities in the world: Los Angeles. We provide unparalleled access to industries defining the new millennium – biotechnology, life sciences, media, entertainment, communications and healthcare; plus, at the gateway to Asia and Latin America, USC is the ideal setting for honing and developing a truly global management perspective.

However, what is most definable about the “Marshall Experience” is perhaps the indefinable, the connection to one of the oldest, most cherished and most vibrant communities worldwide – the USC Trojan Family.

We provide our students with a learning experience that uniquely prepares them to lead and thrive in the most challenging of environments while maintaining a commitment to integrity and the community. As such, we value the potential of every student, and we encourage and support their loftiest dreams and career aspirations.

In turn, organizations know that when they hire Marshall students, they will find innovative thought leaders and global business professionals who strengthen their bottom line while taking their organizations to the forefront of positive social change.

Student profile

Bianca Cornelio loved finance and working with numbers, so financial-management consulting with IBM upon receiving her bachelor’s degree seemed ideal. However, Bianca had a dream to fulfill -- getting an MBA. “I liked consulting but it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do, so I was looking for an opportunity to expand my skill set,” Bianca said. “Also, I was thinking I would stay in finance but I wanted to broaden my perspective; that’s what I expected from an MBA.”

Only one school offered all the opportunities she was looking for. After an undergraduate education at The College of William & Mary, one trip to Los Angeles and meetings with Marshall students and faculty cemented Bianca’s decision. “I loved everyone that I met at Marshall,” Bianca said. “I had never lived in Los Angeles but I loved my visit. Also, the connection to the Pacific Rim and the PRIME program are unique – PRIME was the only mandatory study-abroad MBA program I found when I was looking at schools.”

Once on campus, it didn’t take Bianca long to learn two more advantages of the Marshall experience – flexibility and the Trojan Network. Despite a budding career in finance, Bianca took interest in Marshall’s marketing program. Quickly determined to land a top marketing internship, Bianca experienced the power of the Trojan Network, ultimately connecting with three Trojan alumni at Nestle to prep for interviews with the food giant.

“Marshall gave me the mentors I needed to help prepare for the interview at Nestle,” Bianca said. “I started the process in August, got my interview in October and was offered an internship in November.” Through her internship, Bianca landed a full-time job at Nestle. It’s exactly what she wanted out of her MBA.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever thought of what my dream job would be, but this comes pretty close to what I wanted going into the program.”
