Overview

Situated just 20 minutes south of Amsterdam in the grounds of a 13th century castle, Nyenrode Business Universiteit was created by business for business. Founded in 1946, the university has a wide portfolio of business education programs, and has extensive links with the Dutch and international business communities. Its teaching philosophy is geared towards developing globally minded business leaders and managers, fostering leadership and true entrepreneurial spirit within rigorous and demanding academic programs.

The International MBA Program
The program spans 12 months (core program) or 15 months (with specialization). We offer four specialization tracks: Finance and Banking, Marketing Management, Entrepreneurship and Family Business and International Strategy and Consulting. Designed for young managers, our students have on average five years of work experience and are approximately 29 years of age when starting the program. Selected by students for its size, the International MBA class typically numbers 25-35 students per year, of some 20-plus nationalities. Combining theory and practice, the program also features two international modules at the Kellogg School of Management, USA and the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, India.

Program structure
The 12 months of the International MBA program are split into study blocks. Each block offers a range of subjects from the more quantitative skills through to softer management skills. Teaching methods vary from subject to subject, with a mix of case work, experiential learning, lectures, business simulations, and team projects. Groupwork is essential, and students are frequently required to work in different study teams. In this way, a range of professional, cultural and educational backgrounds are brought together to address a particular problem.

Final project
The final element of the MBA is the company sponsored final project – the ultimate opportunity for students to put into practice all they have learned, and many students use the final project as a stepping stone towards their career after graduation. The final project can take the form of a business plan, a consulting report or an academic thesis. Working alone or in small teams, students complete their final project under the supervision of a mentor from the sponsoring company, and also of a Nyenrode faculty member.

Career Management
The Nyenrode Career Services Center works with all students to help prepare them for career steps beyond the MBA, through counselling and a range of workshops Career Services also brings students into contact with Nyenrode's own extensive network in the international business community.

Alumni Network
Students become a part of the greater Nyenrode network as soon as they join our programs. There are currently over 15,000 Nyenrodians located world-wide.

The Part-time MBA
In addition to the International MBA, Nyenrode offers the Part-time MBA to young professionals wishing to combine work and study in an international program. Taking 21 months to complete, it features modules at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, USA, and the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Student profile

Student profile – International MBA and Part-time MBA
A minimum of three years of work experience is required for the International (full-time) MBA. On average, students have five years of work experience when starting the program. All applicants are also required to have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. However, the International MBA is a general management MBA, which means there are no specific professional backgrounds required for admittance to the program. Recent student backgrounds have been as diverse as general management, law, accounting and medicine.

At least four years of work experience are required for the Part-time MBA program, and the average is currently around eight years. Students following the Part-time MBA combine work and study in a series of six modules spread over 21-months. Although the majority of students are based in The Netherlands, the modular structure enables students to follow the program from wherever in the world they are based.

Nyenrode has a tradition of entrepreneurship, and an ideal candidate is someone who is prepared to take initiative and aim for top quality. Nyenrode students think outside the box, set new limits and look for innovative solutions. Importantly, our students are accountable managers who think before they act, and then act respectfully and responsibly, both personally and with respect to their surroundings.
