Overview

The Stanford Graduate School of Business, a leader in curriculum innovation, has built an international reputation based on a full-time MBA Programme designed to educate business leaders, a doctoral programme that produces the next generation of faculty scholars, a one-year Stanford Sloan Programme for mid-career managers, executive education courses for experienced managers, and a vigorous faculty research programme.

In 2007, Stanford introduced a new MBA Program with increased global content, expanded leadership components, and a highly personalized curriculum suited to each individual's background and experience. The new curriculum builds on the advantages of Stanford's strategically small student body size. It has purposely kept the MBA program to less than half the size of other leading programs. http://www.gsb.stanford.edu/mba/academics/curriculum_year1.html

The level of cooperation and teamwork among students at the School is celebrated as a cornerstone of the MBA program. This powerful cultural norm carries beyond the two years at the School to the greater alumni community.

Central to Stanford’s reputation as a leading school of management is its commitment to nurturing a superior faculty that has produced three Nobel Laureates since 1990. Stanford’s faculty is known for the creation of knowledge about business – economies, markets, industries, firms and people. Their research has led to fundamental breakthroughs in thinking about business and to the application of these insights to everyday business problems. Stanford faculty take pride in how effectively they carry the fruits of their research into the classroom where it keeps the curriculum fresh and students see it before anyone else.

The School also collaborates with other parts of Stanford University such as its world-class School of Engineering and the School of Education. It also takes advantage of its location in Silicon Valley, one of the most dynamic economic centers in the world, to incorporate speakers and lecturers from high technology, biotechnology and venture capital in the numerous course offerings, forums, case study presentations, and conferences.

The Business School's Career Management Center is dedicated to giving students tools and information to help them launch their careers with a staff person available to consult specifically with international students.'

The Stanford Graduate School of Business includes four buildings on the Stanford campus dedicated to the use of business school students and faculty. These buildings include classroom and faculty office space, a full MBA computer lab, a dedicated business library, an on-site cafeteria, student lounges, and the beautiful on-campus Schwab Residential Center which houses MBA students. Each of the rooms in Schwab is fully equipped for Internet access and group study rooms are available to students.

The Stanford Graduate School of Business is constructing a $350 million business school campus of 8 buildings around 3 quadrangels to be completed in 2010-2011. It is expected to achieve the highest LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for environmental sustainability. The campus will provide the infrastructure for the School’s new curriculum introduced in 2007, which includes seminars, leadership exercises in terms of eight, and collaborative multidisciplinary classroom work.
