Overview

The Ross School of Business is a dynamic, distinctive learning community that is consistently ranked among the world’s leading business schools. Ross develops ideas that shape – and people who lead – complex, global organizations.

Ross faculty impact the way business is taught and practiced around the world. Ross students develop their leadership talent through action-based learning programs that connect the world of ideas to the world of practice. The cornerstone experience is the required Multidisciplinary Action Projects (MAP) course. For seven weeks each spring, first-year students partner with sponsors throughout the world to tackle pressing organizational challenges and deliver data-driven solutions.

The school’s general management curriculum prepares students to lead by offering a combination of rigorous fundamentals, practical experience, and the freedom to explore. Students have access to some of the world’s premier graduate programs and faculty at the University of Michigan. There are numerous ways to enrich students’ business education and worldview through elective courses outside of Ross or a dual-degree program.

The Ross School also houses research institutes and centers that provide extraordinary thought leadership and learning opportunities. They are committed to hands-on experience in sustainable business (Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise), entrepreneurship (Zell Lurie Institute
for Entrepreneurial Studies), operations excellence (Tauber Institute for Global
Operations), and emerging economies (William Davidson Institute), among others.

Student life at Ross is all about people: the ideas, diversity, and action that enliven the MBA experience. More than 70 student clubs and organizations provide support and access for recruiting, interviewing, and networking for internships and jobs. Experts and industry leaders participate in on-campus lecture series, conferences, and special events, many of which are led by students. The global network of more than 40,000 Ross alumni and half a million U-M alumni constitutes a valuable lifelong resource.

The school’s Office of Career Development (OCD) offers a diverse portfolio of recruiting companies and industries to allow students considerable flexibility in the job search. OCD hosts more than 5,000 on-campus interviews annually. In interviews, Ross students can demonstrate ways they’ve already impacted industry. They are able to share a range of experiences and knowledge that proves to recruiters they can see the big picture, collaborate across functions and industries, and move seamlessly between the role of team leader and team player.

In January 2009, the Ross School opened a new, state-of-the-art facility that supports the school’s commitment to delivering a transformational educational experience. The campus is within walking distance of downtown Ann Arbor, an intellectually robust city that blends high culture and popular culture. Twenty percent of Ann Arbor residents speak a language other than English at home, and sixteen percent were born outside the U.S.

Student profile

Teamwork is at the core of the Ross culture - it is what we value, what top recruiters value, and what our students value. It fosters a supportive environment that helps students co-create their Ross experience and develop leadership, business, and life skills.

Students at Ross connect in fascinating ways. Lasting ties are formed on M-Trek outings before classes even begin. Section mates bond early during the lively and competitive MBA Games. And perfect strangers become lifelong friends after teaming on Multidisciplinary Action Projects (MAP).

Ross students bring a wide range of perspectives and knowledge to the MBA experience. At Ross, you'll learn and work hard. You'll learn and work fast. And you'll learn and work together. The Office of Student Life is here to ensure your experience outside the classroom is as valuable and as meaningful as life inside the classroom.
