Overview
The University of Virginia Darden School of Business improves society by developing principled leaders for the world of practical affairs. Consistently recognized among the world’s best, Darden’s full-time, two-year MBA and Executive MBA programs are known for their top-notch faculty, case study method, and commitment to ethics and honor.
In contrast to a lecture-based approach to education, Darden class time is spent discussing cases about actual business problems and solutions. Under the skillful direction of Darden faculty—ranked the #1 teaching faculty by the Princeton Review in 2007 and 2008—students are able to strengthen their communication and leadership skills by learning to make difficult decisions with limited information.
The program also involves a firm grounding in principled behavior. Long before the rise of corporate scandals, the Darden School taught the inextricable link between business and ethics. Here, students take on the challenge of integrating ethical thinking into critical business decision-making.
Several hundred U.S. and international firms representing every major industry maintain active recruiting relationships with Darden through the School’s Career Development Center (CDC). The CDC supports students in their individual career planning and in searches for summer internships and full-time jobs. Darden is one of the few major graduate business schools that integrates career strategy and planning into its curriculum.
The Darden School of Business is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, a city top-ranked in national lifestyle, health, and business rankings. Charlottesville is just two hours south of Washington, D.C.

“When I decided to go back to school and receive an MBA, I wanted to find a school where I could learn the skills that I needed to advance my career. I have found that and so much more at Darden.
“Classes here revolve around business cases, so we study real-life issues companies face. We review cases on our own, discuss them in our learning teams in the evenings, and debate them during class. These sessions are always very engaging and require our constant participation. This in-depth study also exposes us to the intricacies of business problems and to a variety of viewpoints. I’m always impressed by the input of my classmates who have such a wealth of experience in so many different business areas and parts of the world.
“Not only am I struck by the quality of our class instruction and dedication of our faculty, I have also been pleasantly surprised by the supportive culture that I’ve found at Darden. I truly feel like people here are working hard to make sure that students succeed. Everyone from the faculty to the staff at the Career Development Center are focused on helping us meet our goals and make the most of our Darden experience.
“To top it all off, the Darden facilities are beautiful and completely state-of-the-art. I’m also constantly impressed by Charlottesville and the many opportunities I’ve found here. Darden was a great choice for me.”
