The Duke MBA Daytime Overview

The Fuqua School of Business School offers many variations of the Fuqua MBA, all with the same core elements. These include the full-time, two-year, residential Daytime MBA and a unique Cross Continent MBA – a 16-month program in global cities spread across six locations worldwide, including London, New Delhi, St. Petersburg, Shanghai, Dubai, and Durham, NC. There’s also a health sector management-focused MBA available.

Fuqua aims to instill values of integrity and vision in its students, to bring forth leaders who can demonstrate competence, character, and purpose. Its goal is to create business leaders of consequence, comparable to its successful alumni. The achieve this, the Fuqua MBA experience involves a mix of classroom lectures, research centers, realistic simulations, case studies, strategic games, club activities, global and entrepreneurial opportunities, intensive small-group work, and other experiential learning opportunities that push students to develop real-world initiative, decision-making, and leadership skills.

Fuqua is one of the most internationally-focused schools in the US. Its MBA students have an exceptional level of international learning and study abroad opportunities available through 27 partner schools abroad, the Global Academic Travel Experience (GATE), and the Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum (FCCP) international experiential-learning trips. The GATE program sends students to foreign countries for two weeks after they have completed a six-week, in-class study of the business, culture, economy, and politics of the selected destination. The FCCP offers similar international and domestic experiential-learning opportunities across a wide variety of industries.

The Daytime MBA program begins with an intense, month-long orientation, which features the three-course Global Institute to prepare students to lead in a global environment, with the remainder of the two-year program split into six-week terms. Fewer core classes allow students more time to invest in electives, with a range of over 100 courses to choose from to help prepare for an internship. First-year students can participate in five case competitions, including the VCIC Case Competition, in which student investors and venture capital firms listen to entrepreneurs’ business pitches.

The Fuqua MBA offers 10 concentrations, with additional variations. These include finance, with options for corporate, investment, or combined corporate-investment; decision sciences – for those in R&D, marketing, operations, finance, or consulting; energy finance; energy & environment; entrepreneurship & innovation; leadership & ethics; marketing – with options in project management or market analysis and strategy; financial analysis/accounting; management; operations management; strategy; and social entrepreneurship.

Fuqua also offers the Program for Entrepreneurs (P4E), which aims to help entrepreneurs define, plan, establish, and finance entrepreneurial ventures.

Acceptance rates at Fuqua for the MBA program are 22%, putting it among the more selective, with a large entering class of 440. In the current class, 34% are female and 45% are international students.

Post-graduation, 92% of students are employed within three months, with an average salary of US$120,000.

Top employers of MBA graduates include Johnson & Johnson, Bank of America, and Deloitte, McKinsey and Co., Microsoft, Amazon, and Bain Consulting Group, among others.
