Full Time MBA Overview

The full-time MBA program at Western (Ivey) is a one-year program, which starts in March. The school states that its small class sizes, with a non-commuter campus provide the basis for an excellent MBA program. It is an intensive program that promises students a fully immersive learning experience.

The full-time MBA program is fully flexible, and students can pick an area of focus for their own course. There are six options that students can choose from: finance, entrepreneurship, corporate strategy and leadership, international management, and marketing. Students can also personalize their MBA program further, by simply selecting electives that fit into what they want to study, to make a unique program that reaches the student’s own goals and potential. Ivey uses case studies as their principal teaching method, which gives students the ability to learn through discussion.

At Ivey, an international perspective is at the forefront of the curriculum, through global case discussions, an international faculty, and classes. There is the chance for an international study trip to provide students with a hands-on experience in an international setting. This can be either as part of the elective cycle or as a volunteer consultant. Another volunteer opportunity is through the student-driven economic development program LEADER. LEADER enables students to teach modern business skills and empower others in emerging regions around the world, in locations like the Caribbean, Africa, and South America. There is also the opportunity for an international exchange, which takes place in the final semester, from January through to April. Students can study in countries like Italy, New Zealand, India, Spain, China, and Singapore.

At Ivey, the student body has an average age of 28 years, with 4.8 years of prior work experience. The Ivey School has over US$1 million in scholarships available for female applicants, to help encourage women into the business world. The school has partnered with both Lean In Canada and the Forté Foundation, both of which are organizations that promise to both help and empower women into careers that involve leadership and help women get into top business schools.

Graduates of the full-time MBA program have a great success rate, with over 90% employment after three months, and an average starting salary of US$104,007. Graduates also have the opportunity to join the alumni network of over 23,000 leaders in 103 countries. Graduates have gone on to work for companies such as BMO Capital Markets, Bell Canada, Bombay Company, Elizabeth Arden, Amazon Studios, Janus Capital, ING Group, and Royal Bank of Canada.
