Full Time Overview

NUS Business School – the National University of Singapore’s business education arm – was founded in its current incarnation in 2002, but business education has been a mainstay of the university since 1961, making it a pioneer in practical, market-focused training in Asia at a time when much of the continent’s higher education was purely academic in nature. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the school is in any way detached from its home region - if anything, the opposite is true. NUS Business School’s vision is to be Asia’s leading business schools, through the promotion of principles that include business excellence, teamwork and innovation, but also moral and ethical integrity, community safeguarding, and environmental care.

The full-time NUS MBA course is a 17-month program, attracting the cream of the business crop from around the world. Applicants must have a university degree, two references, two years of work experience, GMAT/GRE scores, and proof of English proficiency if their degree was not taught exclusively in English. The application form includes three 300-word essay questions, and shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview and to complete any further evaluations the school deems necessary. Tuition fees are around US$45,500, and a range of general and candidate-specific scholarships are available. NUS estimates living costs to be roughly US$1,000-1,500 per month, including accommodation, food, transport and healthcare, but this can vary.

The MBA program at NUS begins with a non-credit management communication course, designed to help students gain influencing skills that will guide them through the rest of the program, as well as their future business careers. There’s also a practical management project, in which teams of three or four students spend around 130 hours over four months to work on solving a real-life business problem, with recent examples including researching market entry strategies for a helicopter manufacturer, and devising operational and service improvements for a hospital chain. The core program combines mandatory and elective courses, with the latter chosen from four categories: finance, marketing, healthcare management, and strategy and organization.

Career support is offered throughout the NUS MBA program, with recruitment events, networking sessions, corporate visits, and ongoing interview and application advice services all available. Thanks to this forward-looking approach, NUS MBA graduates enjoy notable success in the business world, with an average post-graduation salary of US$64,289, and 90% of students in employment within three months of graduation. Importantly, 94% of this post-graduation employment is facilitated through NUS, which serves to demonstrate the intrinsic career benefits of the NUS MBA program.
