Full Time MBA Overview

The University of Queensland Business School (UQ) is renowned for its research, as well as its links with the business world. Its lecturers work as consultants to many leading businesses worldwide – including Coca-Cola, the Asia Development Bank, Procter and Gamble, HSBC, and others. Five UQ Business School academics have been awarded Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. All academic research is means-tested in the real world to ensure it remains fresh, relevant, and incisive. It now has upwards of 130 subject experts and over 8,000 students studying a wide range of degree and executive education programs.

The UQ Business School MBA equips students with the sophisticated skills and knowledge required to become successful business leaders. The MBA integrates theory, real-life practice, and personal reflection to develop principled, innovative leaders who solve complex problems and produce systemic change. Its unique features – including its highly rated, community-focused Social Economic Engagement Program (SEEP); its optional International Immersion Tours for in-depth learning about businesses in other cultures; and its Fudan University MBA iLab, where students complete a real-life market entry or expansion project for a company looking to expand into China – equip students to bring vital skills to the workplace.

Leadership skills are a key focus of the UQ Business School MBA. The Leadership Capability Framework provides visible evidence to the individual student’s progress. Students put their leadership skills into practice while working within community organizations, also in collaboration with the renowned Wharton Global Consulting Practicum from the Wharton School in Pennsylvania, US, on an international consultancy project. They can also explore new markets on an MBA immersion tour.

UQ offers flexible study options to allow students to complete the MBA course at their own preferred pace. They can either opt for the Accelerated Program, in which they will complete the MBA within 12 months; a Streamlined Program, completed over 24 months, which involves some evenings and weekend courses in addition to one-week intensive modules; or a customized flexible program, combining evenings, weekends, and immersive elements to fit learning in alongside lifestyle and work commitments. (Note: The Accelerated Program is the only available option for international students.)

Applicants for the MBA program must have four years of full-time work experience post-graduation including at least two of the four years in a dedicated supervisory/management role. International applicants are required to complete the GMAT with a minimum score of 550 as well as achieved at least 6.5 overall with no subscore less than 6.0 in the IELTS test (or equivalent test).

The “indicative annual fee” for the 2018 academic year is AUD$44,320 (US$34,688) and is calculated based on a standard full-time study load of 16 units over two semesters (actual fee may rise depending on choice of courses and unit value).

UQ provide MBA students with access to The MBA Career Resource Centre – a dedicated team here to support MBA students and alumni providing a range of career advice, guidance and support.
