What attracts international students to HKU
Most international students on the HKU programme see themselves as pioneers in a coming wave of MBA applicants from all over the globe. Sandrella Sarkis, a Swedish student enrolled in the full-time MBA course of study, typifies the overall outlook: Asia is now seen as the place to be. The regional focus of the programme provides an ideal platform for the international students to get exposed to the Asian business practices. Ray Baker from the US states, I believe the HKU MBA programme will provide me with the fundamental knowledge and a professional network necessary to penetrate the Chinese business environment.
The programme also attracts students from other Asian countries as they head towards China to explore opportunities in the Greater China region. Serena Yong, full-time MBA student from Malaysia, says, Southeast Asia has historic links with China and I wanted to seek a pathway into Chinas booming economy and thought HKU MBA will serve as a springboard to this endeavor of mine.
HKU has not only managed to attract students from all over the world but also with different backgrounds and interests. The current cohort has lawyers, engineers, consultants, entrepreneurs, teachers and even medical professionals. Christy Wong, a medical student in the US, has taken a years break to do her MBA at HKU. She says, With the rapidly changing environment of health care, physicians need to be aware not only of the advances in medical knowledge, but of the economic forces that dictate their ability to implement those advances.
