Master of Applied Leadership and Management Overview

The Master of Applied Leadership and Management program is a lock step program with 10 courses at three credits each. There are four opportunities for Applied Learning credits. Each student must have at least six applied learning credits (two are offered online), an optional global field seminar and an optional global challenge lab to complete these credits.

There are two plans of study:

    1. Four semesters (or 16 months)
    2. Five semesters (or 21 months)
    3. Custom plans can be designed with the academic advisor.

    Entry requirements:

    • GPA 3.0 and higher
    • Our preferred work experience duration is at least 2 years.
    • English proficiency is the only extra documentation required.
    • Application fee and all other fees are the same as domestic students.

The Master of Applied Leadership and Management (MALM) program offers three start dates (January, May, and August).

There is an optional international experience called the Global Field Seminar (a week-long professor-led trip to different countries in the world). Students can immerse themselves in the culture, meet with global business partners of Thunderbird, and explore how their program’s global lens is approached in real life.

The program fees for one trip is covered by tuition, meaning students will only have to worry about paying for airfare, some food, and some transportation in the country of their choice. Otherwise, hotel/lodging, cultural activities, transportation, administrative fees, and food are covered.

    Entry requirements:

    • Complete Graduate Application
    • Resume exemplifying previous work history, achievements, and/or any professional development milestones
    • Official transcripts from previous institution; if a student has a graduate degree already, they should submit their graduate transcripts.
    • International students must prove their English proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or even the micromaster in Global Business Leadership.

International students from a non-emerging market will pay the regular tuition of US$33,300, whereas international students from an Emerging Market can apply for the MALM Emerging Market scholarship, which will cover 50 percent of tuition, making the program cost just US$16,650.

If students complete the micromaster’s in full, they will enter with 9 credits for US$900, essentially saving them US$9090 off the program, making the program’s total tuition US$24,210.

With regards to scholarships, there is only the MALM Emerging Market Scholarship (housed inside of the degree application). Students who qualify will receive a scholarship covering 50 percent of the entire program (minus university fees), tallying out to US$16,650

If an international student takes the micromasters course and qualifies for the MALM scholarship, then the degree will essentially only cost them $12,552 plus university fees.
