Full Time MBA Overview

The Oxford MBA program offered at Saïd Business School aims to provide the prepare future business leaders to tackle the world-scale challenges of the 21st century. Today’s world is increasingly interconnected. Therefore, to succeed in business, students need more than just business skills. The Oxford MBA aims to “burst the business bubble” with a program that draws on expertise from different disciplines in other parts of the University.

The Oxford MBA program is a one-year program that provides a solid grounding in major business disciplines and skills, based on up-to-date best practice and the latest academic research. The program is based around cross-cutting themes, including the global rules of the game, entrepreneurship, and responsible business, delivered in the form of lectures and seminars, intensive small-group and team-project work, backed up with case studies and business simulations.

The program begins with a two-week MBA Launch, designed to introduce students to life at Oxford, acquiring the fundamental skills needed for core courses, as well as talent development through soft-skill training and coaching. The MBA Launch also includes the start of the Leadership Fundamentals course and a one-day workshop with a guest speaker, which introduce each year’s Global Opportunities and Threats: Oxford (GOTO) topic, which is geared to using world-class research to tackle the major issues confronting the world.

The first two terms include core courses in finance, accounting, marketing, firms and markets, leadership fundamentals, strategy, technology and operations management, and analytics. These core courses, together with integrative modules featuring across the program, form the bulk of the first and second terms, with the former including an integrative module focused on entrepreneurship, and the latter also including time for electives focus, the second integrative module on the Global Rules of the Game, and work on the GOTO project.

The third term comprises continued work on electives and the last integrative module on responsible business, as well as an entrepreneurship project. The latter involves working on a complete business plan to be presented to a panel of venture capitalists. Over the remaining fourth term, students have an option of continuing with elective courses, a six-week internship, or a six-week strategic consulting project, which could be for a corporate client, charity, not-for-profit, or start-up anywhere in the world. The course concludes with its capstone: a student-developed final session of lectures, workshops, and celebrations during the first two weeks of September.

In 2017, the class is over a third female (41%), with a very highly international mix – 92%, representing 60 different nationalities. There is also a diverse faculty and board, with a 44% female board and 57-58% international faculty and board.

Underpinning a rigorous program of courses is an extended professional and talent development program, which includes professional coaching and a range of optional courses to enable students to define and fulfil their career aspirations, while increasing core interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills. Post-graduation, 86% of students are employed within three months, earning $140,552 after three years – representing an increase of 87%
