Full Time MBA Overview

The 20-month Wharton (including a recommended 3.5-month summer internship) full-time MBA usually includes a requirement for a major concentration of 4.0 credits, with a choice from 19 majors, plus 5.5 electives in addition to the core curriculum. Offered at the Philadelphia campus, a semester of study at the San Francisco campus is available by application.

Also include are a global consulting practicum, a global immersion program, and global modular courses, with other study abroad options available. Countries recently visited as the focus of cross-cultural MBA study included the ASEAN nations (Brunei, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), China, and India, with countries such as Cuba, Japan, Kenya, Israel, Brazil, South Africa, UK, Spain, and Haiti visited in previous global trek and global modular courses.

In addition to a choice of over 19 majors and 200 electives, Wharton offers a very wide range of dual-degree options. These include an MBA/JD, an MBA/MD, an MBA/M Arch (Architecture), an MBA/MS Veterinary Medicine, an MBA/MSW (Social Work), an MBA/MSE Electrical Engineering, an MBA/DMD Dental Medicine, and an MBA/MPP (Public Policy).

Wharton has also recently launched a new dual-degree option – the first-ever joint degree in international management. The MBA/MA Lauder Joint-Degree in International Studies (Intl Studies) is offered in partnership with UPenn’s Lauder Institute’s School of Arts & Sciences to a small, tight-knit group of students who are passionate about global management issues. The course includes advanced language study and an international course sequence in the humanities and social sciences. Other partner institutions where the MBA/MA Intl Studies can be taken include Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and Harvard Kennedy School (HKS).

Wharton has a large entering class, with 863 recently enrolled, and an average 18% acceptance rate. The student body in the class of 2019 is 44% female, 33% international, from over 65 countries around the world, and 33% US minority/multi-ethnic (e.g. from various indigenous Native American, Hawaiian, Asian-American, African-American, and Hispanic American backgrounds) students.

Post-graduation, 95% of students are employed within three months, mostly in consulting and finance roles. Current median salary is US$125,000 – one of the world’s highest. McKinsey is a main employer of Wharton MBA graduates, along with Boston Consulting Group, Goldman Sachs, Bain, Deloitte, and Amazon.
