Based in Brazil’s biggest city and business capital, BSP - Business School São Paulo offer candidates a front row seat from which to observe and learn from one of the world’s most strident economies. It is a relatively young institution, having been founded in the mid-90s, and caters primarily to those who wish to remain in work, focusing on part-time and executive MBA programs (its EMBA program was the first in the country to be offered in English),

We spoke to Ricardo Fasti, the school’s director of business development, to find out how you can get into the school.

What is the typical acceptance rate to the BSP MBA program?

Around 30% of applicants are admitted.

What is a typical ratio of domestic to international students accepted into the program?

Domestic students account for 90% of the MBA cohort.

What are the most important aspects of the BSP MBA application process besides GMAT score, prior GPA, and current job position?

We look for a recommendation letter from the MBA applicant’s immediate superior that assures the commitment of the company to the candidate’s development. It is important to note that BSP offers part-time MBAs.

What is one mistake you see applicants make?

The most common mistake is not being prepared enough to properly respond to the question about contribution he or she will make to their peers and to the institution.

What is something you would like to see applicants do more often?

Understand that an MBA is a privilege, and about more than your academic record. For the rest of your professional life you have a permanent bond with your institution, particularly pertinent when it comes to standards of ethical behavior.

What does the Business School São Paulo application process look like?

The application process consists of a proprietary logical/math test, an essay, two recommendation letters, résumé analysis and a personal interview.

What are some of the tests, official documents, and other hurdles that international students must deal with?

International students are treated the same as locals, we even offer an MBA in English. Obviously getting a visa and finding local accommodation are hurdles.

How can a candidate overcome a lower GMAT score?

BSP uses a proprietary logical and quantitative test.
