Deloitte has just announced its regional shortlist for ‘Campus Maverick’, a business challenge that pits MBA students from India’s top institutions against each other in a bid to win a coveted contract with the world renowned advisory professional services organization.
MBA students compete in teams of three, with the winners walking away with the opportunity to serve on Deloitte’s BAC (management advisory council) for one year, as well as sharing a prize fund of over US$4,000.
Campus Maverick’s format is designed to tax students’ business acumen and involves presenting cases and performing in simulation contests. Its organizers therefore proclaim the business challenge as a great opportunity to experience the role of a business advisor, develop consultative skills and, in particular, to connect with distinguished business leaders and learn about Deloitte’s culture of serving clients.
Deloitte has plans to take ‘Campus Maverick’ Global
Interest in the contest has already risen dramatically since its inception last year. The 2012 edition featured 6,000 MBA students from 30 business schools, whereas this year as many as 14,000 entrants from 60 institutions submitted the initial presentation briefs required.
The regional shortlist features MBA teams representing the leading Indian business schools, such as the Indian School of Business and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. In light of such compelling uptake, it is no surprise that Deloitte should consider expanding its outreach.
Hari Kumar is a Principal in Deloitte U.S. and heads its operations in India. In an interview with Business Standard, he said that the idea of globalizing Campus Maverick “is not something we can rule out in the future. We are going to play this out in India and will look back in November-December to come to a conclusion.”
This year’s edition of the business challenge culminates in a grand finale on September 20 that will be staged in front of a large audience at Deloitte’s offices in Hyderabad. By that point, only eight teams will be left standing.
