Charmaine Leung is now designing her business through the help of an Executive MBA. Founder of start-up online jewellery brand, Go Jewellery www.go-jewellery.com, running a business is in Leung’s blood.

A third generation of business-minds and having both her parents, and grandparents, as successful business people ahead of her, Leung knew it was her calling.

Designing her career

“It always intrigued me to know how a business is run, setup and more importantly grown and sustained, especially with the ever-changing business environment and economic uncertainties,” the Hong Kong businesswoman says. “I have always aspired to start up my own business. It was a challenge I wanted to bestow upon myself.”

With a background in consulting and investment banking, Leung says there were many topics and knowledge she did not have, such as marketing and branding. “They’re not paths I had come across in my previous careers, but doing an EMBA allows me to learn and expand my knowledge further through a multitude of courses that are offered through the program,” she says.

As an entrepreneur, Leung is able to implement such knowledge directly into her business with the guidance and support of her fellow EMBA participants. “My classmates and professors have been extremely supportive in providing feedback to my business. From critical product reviews, areas of improvement, challenging perspectives and even sales opportunities realized.”

Upon graduation, Leung would like to see that her business has grown in multiple dimensions, from sales to designs to exposure while remaining competitive in the market. “Most importantly, I have equipped myself with additional skills and a network to sustain and grow through the future market uncertainties and economic changes, whether it is for new roles, business opportunities or challenges that I will face in the near future.”
