PSU Online MBA Program Closes Amid Heightened Competition: MBA News

Updated UpdatedA 12-year old distance MBA program which later evolved to become an online MBA program has closed due to heightened competition in the field of online MBA education.
The Portland Business Journal reports that "in the face of increased competition from bigger name universities," the online MBA offered by Portland State University's School of Business Administration will cease to be offered. "Students in the online MBA program will be able to finish the coursework," the PBJ continues.
Portland State University (PSU) will continue to offer on-campus MBA programs, namely their full- and part-time offerings.
Distance, Evolving into the PSU Online MBA Program
The PSU online MBA program boasted a 12-year history, as it was first launched as a distance MBA program serving some of Oregon's more rural communities. Initially offering learning by mailing VHS videos of lectures to distance MBA students, the program was ranked highly by some part-time MBA rankings.
In place of the online MBA program, the school has already started offering a Master's degree in global supply chain management.
TopMBA.com has previously reported on the surge in demand for MBA in supply chain management programs, so it seems that such a program may serve the local community better than the online MBA program which was predominantly aimed at students residing within the state, yet was forced to compete with national and international equivalents.
