MBA Student Profile: Jose Alvarez, Tuck School of Business

TopMBA.com talks to Jose Alvarez about his decision to do an MBA, why he chose Tuck Business School and his future career plans.  

What were you doing before your MBA?

I was working as an operations manager for an automotive company in China.     

What were your main reasons for deciding to attend business school?

Enhance my knowledge of the financial side of a business.     

What research did you undertake in selecting your school?

Began speaking with people and looking through rankings.     

What were the main criteria in your selection? 

Top 10 School (and everything that goes with that)
Small class size and only full time students.

Why did you decide to study either in your own country or overseas?

I decided to study in the US because of the high quality of the programs. 

How well do your think the MBA is regarded in your home country?

Depends on the industry.  As with any other degree, it is highly dependent on the competence of the individual, however, the degree does give you credibility.     

How are you financing your studies? 

Savings and Loans. 

How much do you expect to earn on graduation? 

$100,000 US      

What do you expect to do on graduation and where do you expect to be based? 

I expect to return to the auto industry and be based in North America (Canada, US or Mexico) depending on the companies HRM needs.      

How easy or difficult do you expect it to be to achieve these objectives?

I expect it to be challenging.      

Any other comments?

I lived in Spain for approximately 7 years from the age of 1 to 18.  The rest of the time up to the age of 27 I lived in Canada.  From 27 to 29 I lived in China. - Not sure if I represent the typical Spanish B-School student.
