About United Arab Emirates University

United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) was founded in 1976 by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It aspires to become a comprehensive, research-intensive university and strives to preserve national heritage while pursuing innovate solutions and promoting academic excellence.  

UAEU is located in in Al Ain, also known as the city of the Oasis. It’s situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. The city of Al Ain is an old city, central to the cultural heritage of the UAE, and the second largest city in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It's around 150km inland from the capital city of Abu Dhabi and the popular tourist destination of Dubai. 

The city is a popular tourist destination itself with first-class hotels, a golf resort, shopping malls, a wildlife park, a water adventure park and the recently-opened Hazza Bin Zayed football stadium. The city centre also features the Al Ain Oasis, and other oases dotted around the area, which offer cool retreats in the middle of the summer heat. One of Al Ain’s main attractions is Jebel Hafeet, a 1,340m mountain, with mineral springs at its base and stunning drive mountaintop views at sunset. 

Islam is the official religion of the UAE, and Arabic is the official language. English is widely spoken and most road and shop signs and restaurant menus are in both languages. The weather consists of almost year-round sunshine, with temperatures ranging from a low of around 13°C (50°F) on a winter’s night, to a high of around 42°C (118°F) on a summer’s day. The cooler months of November to April have temperatures of around 24°C (75°F) during the day and 13°C (56°F) at night. 

UAEU aims to continue its positive contribution to the advancement of the UAE by delivering undergraduate and graduate education that meets international standards, engaging effectively with the community and the world to foster knowledge creation and dissemination, and enhance the research capacity of the country.

University information

Students wishing to enrol in the UAEU MBA programme can apply online through the UAEU online application system. Additional assistance is available by phone, email and letter. The minimum requirements for master’s programmes are established by the College of Graduate Studies (CGS), though individual programmes have additional requirements. Required documents and processes include: 

  • The electronic application form 
  • Identity documents (such as copy of passport) 
  • Official certificates and transcripts
  • IELTS or TOEFL exam score
  • CV or resume
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Interview

UAEU offers a range of scholarships as well as fellowships and graduate assistantships. They also offer a full tuition scholarship for international students based on high academic credentials. The applicant must have a Grade 12 certificate (or its equivalent) score of at least 97% plus other academic requirements, as well as maintain a GPA of over 3.8/4.0 during their studies at UAEU.

The university currently enrols approximately 14,000 students from 64 countries. It has a large campus featuring a library, laboratories, computer labs, a clinic, a bus station, accommodation, restaurants, Science and innovation park and a sports complex. See the campus map for more details. 

The restaurants and cafés on site range from quick coffee places to cafeterias, pizzerias and a food court located in both male and female campuses which offer a wide selection of healthy cuisine including Middle Eastern, Asian and European menus. Moreover, there are bookshops, accessories shops, supermarkets, retail shops and even a spa so there are plenty of things to do on site.

Student life

UAEU aspires to become a comprehensive, research-intensive university. It strives to promote independent thinking based on academic excellence and employs some of the world’s leading academics to achieve this. This research feeds into UAEU’s teaching, creating a dynamic, engaging and inspiring learning environment.

The university has a variety of support services to ensure the continued growth and development of their students, which include:

The university also has a range of clubs that help students pursue their personal interests outside their studies and develop their leadership skills. The range of clubs on offer reflects the university’s multicultural student study body and wide variety of interests. Plus, there is financial and promotional backing from the Student Activities Department and Colleges, meaning new clubs can be formed and individual activities supported and funded.

UAEU also has a Student Success Unit (SSU) which offers academic support from undergraduate enrolment through to postgraduate level. The unit works closely with students with the aim of helping them fulfil their academic potential and build the skills necessary to be successful in their future careers. Their main aim is to help students develop into successful independent learners. 

Students have the option to live on campus and be involved in the campus community. UAEU has a Residential Life Department which is committed to partnering with residents to create a fun, supportive, friendly and engaging environment in the residence halls. The department’s staff members are trained to create a supportive and welcoming living space that is conducive to students' academic, personal and social lives.

Facilities include bedrooms, mosques, gyms, games rooms, lounges, kitchens, laundry rooms, internet connection and cleaning services. In addition to this, free air-conditioned shuttle buses run regularly during the day between the students’ campus accommodation and the UAEU Colleges.
