QS MBA by Specialization Rankings 2019 Methodology main image

The 2019 QS MBA by Specialization Rankings builds upon the 2019 QS Global MBA Ranking by empowering candidates to consider MBA programs from a career outcome perspective. We specifically look at the following indicators across seven industrial and functional specializations:

  • Career Placements: What is the share and absolute size of graduates going into specific industries and/or functions? This is collected directly from global MBA programs.

  • Employer Reputation: What is the employer reputation for a specific school adjusted for the industry, function, or desired skills of recent graduates? This is derived from responses to the QS Global Employer Survey.

  • Research Strength: How strong is each school in the targeted business disciplines associated with each specialization? This is calculated from SCOPUS data on research productivity.

These indicators are weighted alongside the final score from the most recent global MBA ranking, which contributes 40% to the final specialization score displayed in these new rankings.

The specialization weights associate with the indicators noted above vary by specialization according to data relevance and availability. Below are the specific inputs used to derive scores for each of the specializations.
