Bilkent University

Founded in 1984 as Turkey’s first private, non-profit university, Bilkent University has quickly established itself as a major center for research and teaching, attracting world-renowned scholars to its faculty and many of Turkey’s most able high school graduates to its student body. Instruction in all departments, except Turkish Literature, is in English. Bilkent’s large, modern, residential campus is situated within Turkey’s young and vibrant capital city, Ankara. The city, located on the high Anatolian plain, is the hub of governmental activities for all of Turkey and, as host to embassies and a variety of international organizations, is a gateway to the rest of the world. Bilkent has its own, direct worldwide connections as well, through its many collaborative projects and exchange programs with universities abroad.Bilkent University has an excellent educational infrastructure, including a modern library and extensive computer facilities with a private satellite Internet connection to the United States. The university also has a communications office at Empire State Building in New York, equipped with interactive video conferencing capabilities. A number of courses are delivered through this office via satellite connection.The faculty is comprised of an academic staff from 43 different countries. Most of them have Ph.D.s from universities in North America and Europe. According to ISI Citation Indexes, Bilkent continues to be first in Turkey in number of published papers per faculty member and ranks high internationally.
