Full Time MBA Overview

Bond Business School is part of Bond University, which is set in a 50-hectare campus in Australia’s fast-growing Gold Coast area in the south-east corner of Queensland. It is the country’s first private, not-for-profit, AACSB-accredited university, and one of its most noted educational institutions.

Bond offers a 16-month Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, differentiated slightly to meet the needs of both international and domestic students, along with a 20-month MBA (Specialization) program, with specialization options in finance, marketing, international business, digital business, or big data. There’s also a 23-month (92-week) MBA (Professional) option, two-year dual-degree options of either an MBA/Master of Accounting (MAcc), MBA/Master of Finance, or an MBA/Master of Project Management, and an executive MBA program.

The MBA (Professional) option is for early- to mid-career professionals who may be considering a change in career. It follows the same pattern as the flagship full-time MBA program, with the addition of a 20-week, work-integrated, professional portfolio component designed to promote and support learning, personal development and professional practice in the Australian business environment.

The Bond MBA aims to teach a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice of management, and is designed to provide graduates with core underlying technical skills that inform effective decision-making. These are framed around developing the interpersonal skills required to lead and be effective in implementing decisions. The intended learning outcomes are based on three pillars: leadership, global business and entrepreneurship. The focus of the teaching is on developing graduates who can think critically and strategically in these contexts.

The curriculum blends industry-relevant research with practical applications and challenges. In addition to the 12 core courses – accounting principles, management accounting and strategy, MBA orientation, professional portfolio, economics for business, entrepreneurship & innovation, managerial finance, business in the global economy, business strategy, managing people, marketing management, and statistical methods for business – students choose two approved electives.

All MBA students attend a three-day orientation leadership retreat and do a study tour, either in China or in Silicon Valley, matched to their chosen elective. There is also an option of a business internship, which again can be aligned with electives, or a special topic option available only in exceptional circumstances. A 20-week professional portfolio requirement in included in the program.

All Bond students have an opportunity to participate in the new Australia-first Transformer program – a free, co-curricular program designed to expand entrepreneurial skills, with an emphasis on creativity and innovation. Students work independently or in teams to solve real-world problems, utilizing inspiration (identifying and defining a concept), exploration (generating a potential solution) and transformation (developing a detailed plan and securing resources to realize the projects).

Bond's small class sizes offer personalized attention from professors. Bond cohorts are gender (41% female) and culturally diverse, with over 20 nationalities represented – recent years have occasionally seen a higher proportion of international rather than domestic students, with the current class being 60% international. The multicultural environment ensures students have rewarding cross-cultural learning experiences and rich networking opportunities.
