Full Time MBA Overview

CUHK Business School has been delivering MBA programs since 1966, one of the first schools to do so in Asia. Over the past half century the school has gained global recognition for nurturing business leaders and the effect its alumni has had on the Asia-Pacific market and beyond.

The flagship full-time MBA consists of core and elective courses, divided into three regular terms and an optional summer term. Full-time MBA candidates complete 54 units and completion of the full-time curriculum normally takes 16 months of full-time study, including the summer internship or international exchange (if desired, students can opt out of this to complete the program within 12 months).

Candidates are required to have at least three years of full-time, post-qualification work experience in addition to a satisfactory GMAT or GRE score. While there is no hard and fast rule as to a minimum GMAT score required to be accepted, it is worth keeping in mind that the average score for current students is 650.

A number of scholarships are available that provide up to 50% of tuition fees while students may also qualify for other financial aid schemes.

The CUHK MBA places great emphasis on preparing leaders for the digital age and keeping at the sharp end of technological developments. As such a selection of the current courses available include ‘Business Modelling’, ‘Fintech 101’ and ‘Data Visualization and Business Intelligence’ to name just a few of the 80+ courses available.

Students may stick to the general MBA program or include a concentration option in either finance and technology or entrepreneurship and innovation. Options for a double-degree program with HEC Paris, the Rotterdam School of Management or the University of Texas at Austin in the second year of study, which confers an MBA award from both institutions are also available.

CUHK is committed to providing a rich learning environment through leading the way in cutting-edge research into global business issues and high-quality learning experiences “designed to nurture development of principled, conscientious leaders with a passion for knowledge, who make a difference in the organizations they serve, the people they lead, and the communities in which they operate”. At the heart of CUHK is a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the community by helping to develop sustainable, socially responsible enterprises.

CUHK has the largest business school alumni network in Hong Kong, with over 1,800 alumni working in Hong Kong itself. There are 6,600 MBA plus 30,000 business school alumni members representing senior positions from 40 countries worldwide.

In 2016, through jobs posted on the university’s ‘Online Career Portal’ site, 95% of students were placed in full-time roles within three months, with 8% electing to set up their own businesses. These were within a wide geographical distribution across four continents, with roughly half in Asia. Median salaries for graduates after three years rose to US$139,000 (HKUS$1.08m) as of 2017, an annual increase of 132% on pre-MBA salarie.
