MBA
Established in 1875, Doshisha University is one of Japan’s most prestigious private universities and one of the "Kankandoritsu", a group of four leading higher education institutions in western Japan's Kansai region. Doshisha Business School (DBS) opened in 2004 and is at the front line of globalization, offering the knowledge and experience indispensable for conscientious business leaders of the 21st century. The school is based in Kyoto, where over the years global corporations have harnessed the best of Japanese tradition, with state of the art technology, in harmony with nature. DBS offers the opportunity for students to engage with executive managers of these Kyoto based global corporations, along with high profile academics of Doshisha, and the top overseas business schools including Cambridge, Oxford, Berkeley, INSEAD and Xi’an.
Doshisha’s English-language Global MBA was inaugurated alongside the school’s Japanese MBA in 2009, and has since been bolstered by dedicated faculty and expanded course offerings. While striving to produce business leaders of tomorrow, the program’s ethos is that companies and businesspeople must be ambitious not only for financial success, but also to make a positive social contribution to the world. Students must prove their eligibility for a place on the program by submitting an application form, as well as a copy of their bachelor’s degree certificate, and GMAT/GRE test scores. At least two years of full-time work experience is preferred (although most candidates have three to five years’ experience), and those who are not native English speakers must verify their proficiency in the language. Once applications have been screened, applicants that have passed the first stage will be invited to an interview. Total fees for the program are 1,631,000 YEN (US$14,483).
With a focus on sustainability, the two-year full-time Doshisha Global MBA guides students to explore and enquire beyond the established boundaries set by established theories and practices of global business and management. On their journey towards becoming global-minded leaders, students cover not only the breadth of standard MBA core subjects, but also develop deeper insights from the program’s three focus areas – Sustainability and Green Business, Culture and Creativity, and Business in Asia – as well as hone their analytical prowess through the program’s research thesis component.
Doshisha Global MBA graduates are spring boarded into their business careers thanks to a comprehensive careers service that provides strong support and resources throughout the duration of the program. Doshisha MBA graduates have successfully found positions with a range of companies both in Japan and internationally, with Kyoto Bank, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Amazon some of the beneficiaries of their new-found expertise.
