University information

Admissions to the Whitman School of Management is through a holistic application review process. Candidates to our program possess excellent communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and personal discipline. Historically, one of Whitman’s greatest strengths has been the diversity of its student body. We continue to seek candidates with diverse racial, ethnic, social, academic, and professional backgrounds and career goals.
To apply please prepare a resume, unofficial transcripts, an essay, letters of recommendation, test scores, essay, and English language exam. Please note that requirements can vary by program, and we suggest reviewing the program website before applying. 
It is recommended that students review the following deadlines and apply for the date that best suits their needs:

  • January 15: Early Deadline (Application Fee Waived)
  • March 15: Standard Deadline
  • April 15: Final Deadline

 

The Whitman School of Management Building The centerpiece of the Whitman School is a 160,000-square-foot student-focused facility that, from the ground up, has been designed to deliver nationally prominent programs within walls that foster collegiality and community. The Whitman School building includes 22 classrooms, a 200-seat auditorium, 20 team meeting rooms each for graduate and undergraduate students, a three-story, 4,000-square-foot grand hall, computer clusters, a café, and more.
Culture of Community The Whitman School fosters a strong sense of community, with quality spaces for informal interactions and public events. Special study areas for students help build identity and cohesion, while the Ilene and David Flaum Grand Hall, the Milton Room, and comfortable conversation areas throughout the building encourage casual interaction among faculty, students, staff, alumni, and visitors.
Research and Collaboration
The Whitman School building boasts many spaces for innovative research and collaboration, including:

 

  • The Ballentine Investment Institute, with sophisticated software that prepares students for financial careers on Wall Street

 

  • The Kuhn Real Estate Center, which hosts workshops and seminars and is the foundation for the real estate curriculum
  • The Falcone Center, which facilitates entrepreneurial activity on campus and in local and regional communities
  • An integrated space for the school's endowed research centers and institutes


A "Green" Building  
The Whitman School of Management building has many sustainable, environmentally-conscious features, including:

 

 

  • Erosion control plans to reduce the impact on water and air quality

 

 

  • Restored landscape areas with new trees to reduce the impact of rainwater runoff
  • Special roofing to reduce thermal gradient difference between developed and undeveloped areas
  • Some building materials made with recycled content
  • Maximized use of daylight for lighting and heat
  • Under-floor ventilation to increase air circulation 

Student life

In addition to taking advantage of all that Syracuse University and the neighboring area has to offer, Whitman students are offered a wide variety of specialized opportunities to gain professional experience, while building connections and having fun. Throughout each semester students partake in professional development events including career fairs, workshops, competitions and more.
Whitman is home to 14 student clubs and organizations, including Xi Tau, Syracuse University’s award-winning chapter of the Delta Sigma Pi, a national professional coed fraternity. Students can meet and network with students and professionals who share their business and entrepreneurial interests. Whitman also offers guest lectures from highly sought after business professionals such as Chinedu Echeruo ‘95, founder of HopStop, a $5.5 million student-managed Orange Value Fund and the Couri Hatchery student business incubator, with more than 100 student businesses.

The mission of the Whitman Career Center is to build mutually beneficial partnerships with faculty, alumni, and corporate partners to provide innovative programming and coaching that will empower our students to reach their career aspirations with integrity and professionalism, preparing them for personal and professional success in an ever-changing global business environment.
The Whitman Career Center offers you a dedicated master’s degree student career advisor, who will begin to work with new students prior to arrival on campus through the Summer Online Onboarding Program. The implementation of one-to-one counseling has positively impacted the master’s programs placement numbers.
