Admission to the Whitman School of Management is through a holistic application review process. Candidates admitted to their programmes possess excellent communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and personal discipline. Historically, one of Whitman’s greatest strengths has been the diversity of its student body.
To apply, candidates must prepare a CV or resume, unofficial transcripts, an essay, letters of recommendation, test scores, an essay and an English language exam, though further requirements can vary by programme.Â
- A US bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university - Completed application
- Recommended minimum GPA is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- GMAT or GRE exam (though there is a waiver for 2022 students)Â
- Recommended minimum GMAT score is 600. The 2021 entering class average was 667.
- Recommended minimum GRE Quant score is 160 and Verbal score is 150. The 2021 entering class average was Quant was 165 and Verbal was 155.
- English exam (for international students) where the minimum total score for TOEFL iBT is 100, IELTS Academic is 7.0 and Duolingo English Test is 120.Â
- Work experience is preferred, but not required for admission.Â
International student applications are also similar, though require English translations of documentation if applicable and an English proficiency exam for candidates where English is not their first language, however this may be waived in certain situations. Student life at Whitman School is focused on building connections while having fun. In addition to taking advantage of all that Syracuse University and the neighbouring area has to offer, Whitman students are offered a wide variety of specialised opportunities to gain professional experience.Â
Throughout each semester students partake in professional development events including career fairs, workshops, competitions and more. Whitman is home to approximately 17 student clubs and organisations, including Xi Tau, Syracuse University’s award-winning chapter of the Delta Sigma Pi, a national professional co-ed fraternity. Students can meet and network with students and professionals who share their business and entrepreneurial interests.Â
To promote student’s well-being, there is a variety of exercise facilities and the campus has gone tobacco free. As well as three athletic facilities, there are two full-length swimming pools, aerobic classes and dance studios. Students can also participate in more than 20 different sports offered during both semesters.Â
As part of Syracuse University, Whitman School has 21 residence halls with accommodation to meet diverse needs. In fact, approximately 70 percent of students live on campus.Â
To support students and alumni, there is the Whitman Career Center. The mission of the Whitman Career Center is to build mutually beneficial partnerships with faculty, alumni and corporate partners to provide innovative programming and coaching that will empower students to reach their career aspirations with integrity and professionalism, preparing them for personal and professional success in an ever-changing global business environment.Â
Their career services offer a dedicated student career advisor, who will begin to work with new students prior to arrival on campus through the Summer Online Onboarding Program. So far, they have found that the implementation of one-to-one counselling has positively impacted the master’s programmes placement numbers.Â

Master
The centre of the Whitman School campus is a 160,000-square-foot student-focused facility that, from the ground up, has been designed to deliver nationally prominent programmes in a space that fosters collegiality and community. This includes 22 classrooms, a 200-seat auditorium, 20 team meeting rooms each for graduate and undergraduate students, a three-story, 4,000-square-foot grand hall, computer clusters, a café and more.
