Full-Time MBA Overview

Running since 1940, the University of Houston’s C. T. Bauer College of Business is the state’s most comprehensive business school, one that has produced more c-suite executives than any other business school in Houston. It took the name of C.T. Bauer in 2000, after Houston alumnus and self-made businessman Ted Bauer, who at the age of 81 endowed the college with a gift of US$40 million.

The Bauer Full-Time MBA combines a rigorous curriculum with solid networking opportunities. Ranked inside the top 40 public business schools nationwide, the Bauer Full-time MBA is a 22-month program designed for those ready to take on a completely integrated learning experience. Admissions are competitive, but the process for applying is fairly standard: applicants must submit the normal documents (transcripts and undergraduate degree certificates, an online application form, GMAT/GRE test scores, a resume, a letter of recommendation) as well as a goal statement detailing individual motivations, personal and professional experience, and how applicants will maximize the Bauer MBA experience. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to an interview. Work experience is not compulsory, but given that students have, on average, five years of post-graduation work experience, it is a distinct advantage. Tuition for the full-time MBA currently costs US$41,000 for residents and US$69,5000 for international students, though financial aid and scholarships are available.

The program is more academic and module based than other more project-led courses. Students must complete a broad range of core modules in their first year, including financial accounting, managerial analysis, and information systems. An internship at one of the school’s corporate partners during the summer is strongly recommended. With the core subjects providing an excellent grounding in business disciplines, the majority of elective courses follow in year two, allowing students to customize their learning experience to suit their career goals.

Upon graduating, Bauer MBA students earn an average salary of US$81,316 with a signing on bonus of US$9,032 – impressive figures for a school of this size and scale.  The top five industry destinations for graduates are consulting, consumer goods, energy, finance, and IT, with cutting edge firms such as Hewlett Packard and Chevron among the companies that have hired recent Bauer College graduates.
