New Year, New Dean for the HEC Paris MBA
By Tim Dhoul
Updated August 11, 2016 Updated August 11, 2016A former professor at London Business School and PhD graduate of INSEAD, Andrea Masini, has taken charge of the HEC Paris MBA, after Bernard Garrette’s five-year tenure came to a close with the passing of 2015.
In a statement for the school, Masini welcomed the challenge of leading the HEC Paris MBA and voiced his belief in the program’s current standing:
“The HEC MBA is unquestionably a reference model, with high-level teaching delivered by internationally renowned professors, a diverse profile of students, capped off professionally by a structured network of graduates who are active throughout the world.”
New HEC Paris dean must aim to build on predecessor’s progress
The international reputation of the HEC Paris MBA program has certainly grown under the leadership of Garrette, moving up in QS’s regional rankings for Europe from 9th in 2011/12 to 4th in 2014/15. This was something asserted by HEC Paris’s general director, Peter Todd, as he gave thanks to Garrette:
“Under his direction, the international renown of the (MBA) program has been reinforced, in the same way as the quality and implementation of the curriculum.” You can read a recent TopMBA.com debate in which Garrette speaks in favor of the MBA specialization here.
Masini joined HEC Paris from London Business School in 2010 as a professor in operations management and IT and has been teaching MBA classes in supply chain and operations management as well as in technology strategy. He has also taught at EMBA and PhD level.
With a background in mechanical engineering, Masini turned to the study of management in his PhD at INSEAD and is particularly interested in the organizational impact of technological innovations.
Masini on the value of renewable energy technology
Recent research conducted by HEC Paris’s new MBA chief has also extended to renewable energy and sustainable development. In the run up to the climate change talks held by the UN in Paris in November (COP21), Masini discussed the importance of getting more renewable energy into the global mix and in implementing their related technologies. In the video below, you can see the new head of the HEC Paris MBA outlining the business opportunities offered by the renewable energy field.
