Madrid’s IE Business School has announced the launch of its Tech MBA – the first of its kind in Europe.

The one-year program will be open for business for interested students as of September 2020. IE’s Tech MBA provides students with an immersive learning experience in areas of management, technology, and transformational leadership for managers who want to develop their career in technology companies or for those who want to work in technological positions in other sectors.

To earn a place on the program, Tech MBA candidates must have STEM training – in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics – as well as the skills required to manage technological projects.

IE Business School will also have a Digital Female Leadership Mentorship for the Tech MBA to promote diversity and attract women with a STEM background.

Martin Boehm, Dean of IE Business School says, “In a digital, interconnected world, companies need managers with the talent and training to promote technological innovation.

“Technology rules our lives, rules the world and accelerates our capacity for innovation. Areas such as data management, artificial intelligence or automation take center stage in corporate strategy. Our Tech MBA will equip managers to propel their business into the future.”

Technological immersion

The Tech MBA will be an intense full-time, one-year course at IE Business School’s campus in Madrid with two intakes annually in September and January.

Content will be focused around three main areas: Business Management, Technology Immersion and Transformational Leadership.

Similarly, the program will include three tracks in Digital Transformation, Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence and Digital Finance.

Jose Esteves, Vice Dean of IE Business School says, “Our Tech MBA will provide managers with strong leadership capacity and a deep knowledge of the tech industry.

“The Tech MBA will develop their management training and help them navigate the current and future technological environment from a global corporate perspective. These leaders will be able to integrate technology into business strategy and processes.”

Specialized training

Participants will see that the Tech MBA is divided into four periods, and within each period, students will receive specialized training in different areas of technology.

The first two periods will take an experimental learning approach, with a practical perspective on Fintech, Insuretech and Edutech, among other areas. The third period will include specific technological tracks on digital transformation, data analysis and artificial intelligence, and digital finance. This last track will include content on Fintech, Blockchain, Robotics Process Automation, Advanced Automatic Learning and Emerging Technologies.

Students can choose to strengthen their business skills or the tech side of their career in the fourth period by undertaking electives from the International MBA or the specialized Tech MBA.

And if they so wish, students can also choose to utilize the available exchange programs with other schools such as Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, Cornell University; NYU Stern School of Business or MIT Sloan School of Management, or participate in different internship programs.
