The only program of its kind between Toronto and Vancouver, the Asper Master of Finance (MFin) is a one-year/three-term program that prepares you to write all three levels of exams needed to obtain a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, with a focus on the Level 1 exam.
The CFA designation is one of the most respected and globally recognized credentials in the financial services industry. Graduates of the Asper MFin and a CFA designation are qualified to pursue job opportunities at financial service firms including banks, pension funds, insurance companies, investment banks, mutual funds, hedge funds, asset management firms, and brokerage firms. Opportunities also exist with non-financial firms for graduates seeking to specialize in valuation and capital market strategy.
The Asper MFin program is accredited by AACSB International and has been mapped out to align with the CFA Program Curriculum.
The past two decades have marked a dramatic increase in global financial market volatility.
This trend has spawned a surge in the demand for ethical financial services professionals equipped with specialized skills that make them better prepared to face heightened financial market risks and operational complexities.
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute sets professional and ethical standards for financial services professionals worldwide. The CFA grants a globally-recognized professional finance designation that gives CFA charter holders the opportunity to advance in the financial sector.
The Asper Master of Finance (MFin) program uses the CFA Body of Knowledge as its frame of reference. We worked with the CFA to map over 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge into our concentration, in addition to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Our degree prepares you to write all three levels of exams needed to obtain your CFA designation, with a focus on the Level 1 exam.
You also graduate as a highly skilled and sought-after finance professional fully versed in, and committed to upholding, the ethical standards and practices of the financial services sector.
Your expertise will empower you to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of techniques for financial assets valuation;
- Assess financial risk and develop proper strategies for controlling this risk;
- Develop appropriate benchmarks for risk compensation;
- Facilitate decision-making based on sound financial modelling;
- Determine whether firm investment and policies create value;
- Apply ethical values consistent with academic integrity and proper professional judgments;
- Engage in applied financial research.
