Full time MBA
UT Knoxville, Knoxville, United States
16 monthsProgramme duration
Programme overview

MBA
The University of Tennessee Haslam College of Business’ MBA mantra is “Learn. Transform. Lead.” This is disseminated practically through its 17-month-long, accelerated course structure, implementing a team-based, cross-disciplinary structure and leading-edge forums. The program is also augmented with Bloomberg Professional Certification. This provides students with technical and financial technology skills via live support from global Bloomberg financial analysts (the Bloomberg training & research financial software facilities). Its vision is to challenge the status quo, enhance knowledge, drive change, and transform the world through its values: integrity, inclusion, insight, impact, openness, communication, accountability, professionalism, and a high regard for diversity.
The first year is introduced by a LEAP week of skill and team-building exercises, experiential learning, and career development. The course goes on to focus on building a solid foundation of business skills and experiential knowledge, followed by a Global Business Seminar during the summer mini-term, a summer internship, and a final term for the UT MBA Capstone Course, Global Business Strategies, and doing traditional or
customized electives.
The six specialist concentrations offered are: business analytics, entrepreneurship & innovation, finance, human resource management, marketing, operations, supply chain management & custom concentration. Dual degrees are also available as JD/MBA, MBA/MS Ag Econ, MBA/MS Business Analytics & MBA/MS Engineering. Students can also design a customized program in line with their career goals.
Class sizes are kept small (a total of 58 students in the class of 2018) to facilitate personalized attention, with an emphasis on experiential learning. Full-time MBA students participate in a case competition, customized to reflect current business issues, and a 7.5-week consulting project culminating in a presentation. The experiential learning aspect is extended through international travel and study abroad, and the mandatory summer internship.
The 2016 UT full-time MBA student class was 27% female, 28% international (mostly from China and India), and 14% minorities.
Of the 2016 graduating class, 100% received (paid) 10-week internships in widespread geographic areas across the US, with a proportion taking internships abroad (in China, El Salvador, and India). The sectors were also widespread, with the bulk concentrated in manufacturing and government, and involved a range of functions, with 48% involved in operations & logistics, and 15% in consulting roles. Companies with whom interns were placed included Amazon, the Bank of China, Intel, Air India, EY, the Knoxville Office of Sustainability, Deloitte, Dell, Nissan, and many others.
A full-day, immersive campus visit is highly recommended in advance of enrolling. This will enable prospective students to meet with current MBA students, participate in lectures, interview with a full-time MBA representative, discover the campus and MBA program, and find out what it is like to live, study, and work in Knoxville.
Post-graduation, 84% of students are employed within three months, with an average salary of US$78,640 representing an increase of 124%. Employers included EY, Hewlett-Packard, Merrill Lynch, Sears Holdings, Unilever, Eastman Chemical Company, PwC, Pilot Flying J, Intel, and McKinsey & Company, among others.
