Canada is one of the world’s largest economies and trading nations, so it’s no wonder it’s also seen as one of the top locations to undertake an internship as both a national and international MBA student.

The nation is known for its dedication to providing generous benefits for its workforce, meaning interns should be treated well during their internship.

If you do decide to intern in Canada, you’ll be submerged in a perfect combination of opportunities for professional development, while getting to work in one of the most magical, beautiful countries in the world.

Let’s take a look at some of the best internships available in Canada.

Technical Sales internship

Microsoft Canada Inc. is offering MBA students an internship opportunity in technical sales at its office in Mississauga, ON.

The company describes its Technology Solution Professional (TSPs) employees as the drivers of technical motions within sales. They focus their portfolio of assets and go-to-market efforts across four key solution areas: Modern Workplace, Business Applications, Apps & Infrastructure, and Data & AI.

TSPs work alongside Business Development and Solutions Architect teams who source, generate and qualify opportunities within the sales lifecycle. TSPs implement, manage and enable cutting-edge and legacy technologies in large enterprises.

Ideally, participants will have a passion for technology and working with customers, as well as demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills and superior customer-service oriented skills.

Interns should be pursuing an MBA degree with at least one quarter or semester to complete following the internship. MBA candidates possessing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, math or related field are preferred.

Strategy Intern

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Internship program in Toronto, ON, will immerse you in the testing, inspection and certification industry through its strategy team.

Participants will play a critical role in supporting initiatives that fit within the scope of the Strategic Development team.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Proactively gather and analyze data
  • Formulate and test hypotheses and synthesize findings
  • Support financial analysis and business case development
  • Facilitate strategic decision-making
  • Articulate new strategic initiatives
  • Develop competitive benchmarks for key operating metrics

The CSA is looking for candidates with business experience in developing and communicating presentations to technical and non-technical audiences, as well as an ability to drive technical decisions with various sized customer stakeholder groups.

Experience in lab testing environments and the ability to communicate technical requirements and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences is also necessary.

Interns will need to be current students on a full-time engineering program, or an MBA program. They will be considered for potential full-time opportunities within the CSA if their performance on the internship is deemed above and beyond.

Customer Success Offerings internship

Autodesk is offering MBA students the opportunity to undertake a Customer Success Offerings Product Management internship in Quebec, Montréal.

Interns dissect what customers say to find out what they truly want and enlighten stakeholders and functional groups about those needs to ensure everyone understands the “why” behind product initiatives.

Participants will be involved in customer intelligence and market research, support the Service Offerings team on product launches and assist on various major ad hoc creative projects.

Interns must be students on an accredited program in Canada with at least one academic term left following the internships. You should have an academic focus on marketing or finance, experience in quant and qualitative analysis courses as well as knowledge of tech and pulses.

Sun Life MBA internships

Find out what it’s like at Sun Life through a co-op term or summer internship, located at the Toronto, Waterloo and Montréal offices.

Every year, five interns enrolled on an MBA program are hired by the Private Fixed Income (PFI) Group onto a program that supports and contributes to management of the PFI portfolio.

Interns are given the opportunity to participate in investor meetings, monitor existing private debt investments, and contribute to due diligence for new investments.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in finance, human resource, actuarial, or data management fields, look no further than the opportunities at SunLife Financial.

Similar to many companies, their hiring cycle is from May to August, with the application deadline in February.

Equity Research Analyst summer Internship

The summer intern role at Fidelity International’s Toronto office mirrors the experience of a full-time Equity Analyst. Interns will conduct fundamental research to make, buy and sell recommendations on stocks.

Interns will have full and sole responsibility for the group of stocks they’re assigned (approx. three to eight) to analyze. Participants will have access to Equity Analysts and will be assigned a Portfolio Manager mentor.

At the end of the internship, the Intern will present their findings and provide investment recommendations to the portfolio managers and analysts. A full‐time offer will be offered to candidates who demonstrate the skills and passion to become a successful full-time equity analyst.

Participants must be first-year MBA students. Candidates with superior undergraduate academic records from all majors are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated enthusiasm for investment management and equities is a plus, but previous work experience in finance isn’t required.
