Thinking of doing an Executive MBA? Here, TopMBA.com looks at how to use rankings and how to impress the admissions committee.
Rankings
When deciding which business school to apply to for your EMBA, it’s important to get the right fit. Time spent researching different programs as you consider an EMBA is vital but how do you go about it? Many candidates begin with university and business school rankings, such as the Times Higher Education – QS World University Rankings, Business Week and the FT.com. These rankings give an initial indication of the world’s top business schools but nowhere in these lists can you determine the school that best suits you. This is where personalized rankings come in.
QS TopMBA Scorecard is a unique, personalised business school ranking system that is completely free and very easy to use. It allows you – the candidate - to search and rank over 350 of the world’s top business school by what is important to you. This may be criteria such as where you’d like to study, what your budget is, school specialization or return on investment.
Search, Compare, Adapt, Rate and Decide which EMBA program is right for you with QS TopMBA Scorecard.
Admissions Committee (AdCom)
In short – these are the people you need to impress. Members of the Admissions Committee of your chosen business school, or schools, will be the ones reading your application – the essays you have submitted, your CV, work experience record, and, if you pass the initial round of scrutiny, they’ll also be the ones interviewing you for a place on their EMBA course.
It is the members of the Admissions Committee that you can meet at the QS World Executive MBA Tour. For many candidates this is the first – and possibly only – opportunity they will have to meet with the admissions directors before submitting an application. At the fairs, you can ask the admissions directors what they are looking for in an EMBA candidate, what makes an application stand out, and what makes their program so unique.
It’s important to remember that the Admissions Committee deals with numerous applications from EMBA hopefuls, so take care when submitting yours. The Committee will be looking for those candidates that stand out, so be sure to supply all of the information they request in a way that highlights why you are the best candidate for their EMBA program.
