As the home of Silicon Valley, it may be unsurprising that the most popular function MBA employers hire for in the US is IT/Tech, with more than half of MBA employers hiring in this area.
Silicon Valley isn’t the only home of IT/technology jobs for MBA graduates but it’s no doubt a significant factor behind the fact so many employers are seeking recruits in this area.
Perhaps MBA employers in the US are gearing up for a post-pandemic explosion of interest in technologists, and that includes within start-ups, with so many focusing on technological innovation. Remote work has created an obvious demand for certain tech jobs.
In fact, a Microsoftreport from 2020 estimated the total number of “technology-oriented” jobs would increase from 41 million in 2020 to 190 million in 2025.
The demand for marketing is also high, but job growth – according to the US Bureau of Labour Statistics – will vary by the area of marketing in which you choose to specialise, as well as where you work.
Finance is the third most popular function MBA employers are hiring for in the US, which is unsurprising with the US being the home of Wall Street.
Both finance and marketing offer the potential for higher earnings and our data suggests there are plenty of roles available for MBA graduates within each industry.
