Pursuing careers as startup founders continues to be an attractive proposition among those attending business school, as well as those applying to MBA programs.

The proportion of students who head out into the entrepreneurial landscape the moment they graduate from MBA programs is testament to the power this life holds over the imaginations of many students.

MBA programs can propel startup careers

In a 2015 report assessing the ROI (return on investment) of MBA programs in Europe, several business schools reported that 10% or more of their graduating class had chosen to start out as entrepreneurs. This included 15% of the MBA class at Germany’s WHU Otto Beisheim GSM and 13% at Cambridge Judge Business School in the UK.

But how many successful, and influential, startup founders met in the halls and campuses of leading business schools and universities in the US?

The infographic below, from Washington State University’s College of Business, reveals which startup founders met at the likes of Harvard, MIT and Stanford. It also details some of the business school initiatives that aim to encourage and support the eager entrepreneur, as well as the unexpected places where some the world’s most famous startup founders began their enterprise - did you know Hewlett-Packard and Apple both started out in garages, albeit 41 years apart and (almost certainly) not the same garage…?
