On an MBA program, students learn to apply a wide range of soft and hard skills they will use in their future career. Developing skills in leadership is one of the more obvious elements to an MBA program; whereas obtaining other skills like communication, aren’t always a given.

We’ve spoken with faculty at three business schools and found out why communication is key to a successful career.

Elaine Seabrook, Marketing and Recruitment Executive at ESCP Europe Business Schools, says MBA students often land careers across sectors – some start their own company, or may work for large consultancy firms or businesses. This variety shows how transferable communication skills are post-graduation.

At IESE Business School – where Paula Amorim works as Associate Director of MBA Admissions – communication is an extremely valuable skill to learn. Many IESE alumni end up working in Latin America; learning the ability to network across continents and cultures with effective communication is imperative.

According to Pasquale Quintero. Jr – Program Director of MS and Dual Degree Programs at Smith School of Business – one of the most important qualities MBA candidates should have is the ability to collaborate. Whether it’s about making decisions, leading a team, or collaborating with employers and colleagues, communicating effectively is key to a successful career post-MBA.
