Thunderbird School of Global Management has launched an Online Master of Applied Leadership and Management.

The program will be online with optional in-person capstones for students. It can be undertaken in 12 months (four semesters) or 15 months (five semester plans) with multiple possible start dates.

To begin in the Fall, the application deadline is August 1st with a start date of August 16th; the Spring application deadline is December 21st with a start date of January 7th; and the summer application deadline is April 29th with a start date of May 20th.

What led to the development of this program at the school?

Market research shows leadership programs are in demand for professionals from an array of different backgrounds.

This program focuses on developing leadership skills while simultaneously maintaining management background foundations. This effective combination helps those in many different professions, while developing the individual’s own leadership drive and skills.

What type of students do you hope to see apply in the first year?

We hope to get a diverse group of students from different educational backgrounds, professions, and locations. This international and interdisciplinary approach keeps with Thunderbird’s tradition of promoting global mindset as well as welcoming others to contribute their wealth of knowledge.

This program is perfect for independent, disciplined, ambitious, and goal-oriented individuals who require the flexibility that comes with an online program.

What can students expect from the program on a day-to-day basis?

The program is taught 100 percent online by Thunderbird’s professors. Students will undertake graduate coursework and learn applied practitioner and leadership skills to apply to their own work.

What most excites you about this program launch?

Developing a masters’ program that’s 100 percent online is exciting. As online programs change and evolve, the Master of Applied Leadership and Management will blend the rigor of a traditional in-person graduate program with the flexibility of an online program.

What will the career opportunities be for graduates of the program?

Students will flourish in a plethora of different fields, from the private sector to non-profit organizations, the skills and talent developed in the program can be applied to an array of positions.

Students looking to boost their career can use this program to help them rise up the ranks, and students who are already established as leaders in their field can finesse and fine-tune their skills to complement their evolving career plan.

Is there any additional information that you would like prospective students to know?

When thinking about careers, Thunderbird and ASU offer a comprehensive and customizable career service through Handshake. This platform gives students (in-person and online) a chance to meet with knowledgeable ASU career coaches who cover topics including resume development, interviewing skills, and will help students explore careers outside their main subject of study.

Additionally, we encourage students to customize their profile through Handshake, as the platform will present different career paths and job offerings based on their preferences. It’s a fantastic tool for our students to take advantage of.
